Founded in 1477, ca 44,000 students, 2300 PhD students, 5,000 researchers/teachers. Disciplinary domains: Humanities and Social sciences, Medicine and Pharmacy, Science and Technology, ca 50 departments in total. Eleven campuses in Uppsala and one in Visby on the island of Gotland. Ca 140 programmes, many freestanding courses. Some subjects are given at distance, but main target group is campus students. Strategic priorities include: Internationalisation, Sustainable development, Quality assurance/enhancement, Collaboration. Intensive development is taking place in the area of e-learning.
